Jack Hunt School aids NHS in manufacturing PPE for local hospitals and health care units during the COVID 19 outbreak

news / 03 April 2020

Last week our Corporate & Commercial team supported Jack Hunt School by providing advice on the legal issues surrounding the manufacturing by the school’s teachers of protective visors for healthcare workers during the coronavirus outbreak. There is currently a national shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE)and as a result, caregivers are suffering.

After the school received specifications for protective visors from Birchwood High School in Bishop’s Stortford, three teachers from its Design and Technology department went into the school on Friday 27 March, to assess the possibility of supplying Peterborough City Hospital with additional PPE. The teachers managed to produce 61 visors and a representative from Peterborough City Hospital Procurement Services collected them for use.

The production line did not stop there!  So far this week we understand the school has manufactured and donated visors to Peterborough City Hospital, Hinchingbrooke Hospital, Kettering General Hospital, hospitals in Nottingham, GP surgeries across Peterborough and beyond and to key workers in the care sector. The school’s DT department has also been receiving donations towards the costs of the materials from people who have seen the story published in local news outlets. The department even received a video from a Consultant at a Nottingham hospital suggesting how they can improve the comfort of the visors. The department rolled up its sleeves and worked on the enhancements and have sent a video back of the new design specifications to see if they match requirements.  Such an incredible outcome and contribution by the teachers at Jack Hunt School that we wanted to share with you all.

We are thrilled to play a small part in such a positive story in these uncertain times and look forward to supporting Jack Hunt School further in whatever way we can.

Over the past couple of weeks, we have heard of a variety of companies and schools doing what they can to help fix the gap in the supply chain of PPE and we applaud them greatly.
