Allergens Update – Natasha’s Law

Regulatory / 25 June 2019

Michael Gove, Environment Secretary, announced today a new law requiring food businesses to include full ingredients labelling on pre-packaged foods.  The aim is to protect the country’s two million food allergy sufferers.

These changes follow the tragic death of Natasha Ednan-Laperouse, who died after suffering an allergic reaction after unknowingly eating sesame in a baguette.  The new legislation, known as ‘Natasha’s Law’, will tighten the rules by requiring foods that are pre-packed direct for sale to carry a full list of ingredients – giving allergy sufferers greater trust in the food that they buy.

We shall be discussing the implications of these changes at the Royal Society of Public Health’s food safety conference in October.  You can find further details on the conference here.

Should you have any queries about the legislation changes and how they may affect your business then do get in touch.
